Product Overview

Maxorb Extra is a high-absorbency alginate wound dressing made for moderate-to-heavily draining wounds where keeping fluid off the periwound skin is the difference between healing on schedule and re-injury. Manufactured by Medline, the dressing combines calcium alginate with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) fiber to create a soft, conformable pad that gels on contact with exudate, locking fluid into the dressing rather than letting it spread sideways onto healthy tissue.

The CMC reinforcement is what separates Maxorb Extra from a plain alginate. Alginate alone absorbs well, but combined with CMC the dressing pulls fluid in vertically, gels more uniformly, and holds together with greater wet strength — which means cleaner, one-piece removal at change time and fewer fiber strands left in the wound bed. The vertical wicking pattern actively protects the periwound skin from maceration, a common cause of stalled healing in heavily draining wounds.

Maxorb Extra is indicated for moderate-to-heavily draining partial- and full-thickness wounds: pressure injuries (Stage III and IV), venous and arterial leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites, traumatic wounds, and surgical wounds healing by secondary intention. The 4" x 4" square is sized for medium wound beds and can be cut or layered as needed. Apply to a cleansed wound, cover with an appropriate secondary dressing, and change as drainage dictates — typically every one to seven days.
